Optical aids in dental medicine are binocular magnifiers and an operating microscope. We divide binocular loupes into two types - Galilean and Kepler. Galilean type of loupes are magnifier magnifiers (2-3 times), less weight, less expensive and easier to handle. Most dental operators are usign them in their daily work because of the magnification that allows a wide field of work compared to Kepler type of loupes. This type of loupes features a larger magnification (3-8 times) and are much heavier and larger. The difference between magnifying these two types of loupes is the result of the different lenses contained in them and the way the light is refracted and where the image is created. The operating microscope is more complex than the loupes and requires a longer adjustment period for both the operator and the entire dental staff. It allows larger magnification, but is a more expensive option. It provides a better image of the object and have the ability to feed documentation. Operating miscroscope is consisted of the eyepieces, binocular tubes, light units, zoom lens and lens. Optical aids are the main features in the microsurgical discipline of dental medicine that aims to act minimally invasively.
