Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Endocrine tissue neoplasms in children are still quite rare entity. There is a lack of quality guidelines on diagnostic management and therapy assessment of endocrine tumors. Dysfunction or hyperfunction of endocrine system caused by its lesions impair the patients’ quality of life. Tumor behavior depends on different characteristics such as histological, biochemical and/or anatomical classification of tumor. It is important to distinguish benign from malignant and secretory from inactive tumors. Most common classification is based upon anatomical distribution of tumor and specific symptomatology depends on affected endocrine tissue and its function. One of most common solid tumors in children is neuroblastoma, a tumor of adrenal gland. Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) combines several types of endocrine tumors and it is found in children more often. Because of its genetic predisposition symptoms present in early age. Multidisciplinary approach is needed in diagnostic management, same as in therapy of endocrine tumors. Mostly good results are seen after surgical removal of tumor and survival rate is still quite high.
