The larynx is a specific part of our body due to its multifunctionality, and it participates in the mechanisms of breathing (respiratio), swallowing (deglutitio) and speech (phonatio). The phonation mechanism itself begins in the larynx, where the basic laryngeal tone is created. Therefore, the complexity of its anatomy and physiology is not surprising. Dysphonias (hoarsenesses) are voice disorders characterized by any deviation from the normal features, pitch and intensity of the voice, and can arouse suspicion of benign as well as malignant diseases of the region and are extremely important in the prevention and diagnosis and timely therapy of pathological conditions of the larynx. In addition, they can arouse suspicion of some systemic diseases, hormonal imbalances, and psychogenic disorders. The voice is therefore also an indicator of our physical and mental health. In addition to being our basic means of communication, it is also a representation of our emotional states. In conclusion, the voice reveals not only pathological conditions of the larynx, sometimes also systemic diseases, but it is also a picture of our personality, character and our soul.
