Stress is the body’s mechanism action against stressors, internal or external factors that disrupt homeostasis, physiological balance. Acute stress can be beneficial for it is needed for growth and development. Stress is manifested by the action of the autonomic sympathetic system and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. These systems are activated in acute and chronic stress for the purpose of removing stressors. The problem is created when the stressor is not taken care of and only chronic stress remains which causes problems in various organ systems and thus can create damage. Psychological stress is also a form of stress that stimulates the body’s systemic stress response. If the disease has at least a partial underlying psychic underpinning we can talk about the psychosomatic aspect of the illness that is often caused by stress. Many diseases have a psychological basis because the mental state can have a great impact on the development, success of therapy and cure of the disease. In therapy we use the resources available to us. Depending on the condition and disease, we will try to address the organic and / or environmental factor. Stress is not the only factor in psychosomatic illnesses but it is one of the factors we can influence. Everyday problems are the most present source of chronic psychological stress. Marriage, work, a sense of injustice would be most significant. A lot of people have problems with their own outlook on life problems and this causes them stress and bad life habits which ultimately largely leads to the development or worsening of the illness. By applying various forms of therapy such as the cognitive-behavioral approach, we can help people change their attitude and strengthen their character and thus reduce the impact of stressors. Criticisms of modern problematization and therapy of stress exist due to ethical and philosophical implications. Medicine is not the only one whose problem is ubiquitous stress. Other professions such as philosophy and politics are already involved but with questionable motives. An open and honest dialogue is necessary.
