The leading cause of morbidity and mortality in pediatric population is trauma (1). Blunt abdominal trauma accounts for 85% of all abdominal injuries (4). Anatomical differences between children and adults make children more susceptible to blunt abdominal injury (2). The two most common mechanisms of injury are motor vehicle accidents and bicycle accidents (12). The management of patients with blunt abdominal trauma has changed significantly throughout history (9). Blunt abdominal trauma frequently results in liver and spleen injuries (31). The third most common is kidney injury and the fourth is pancreatic injury (27,32). Bowel and mesenteric injury, aortic and adrenal gland injury are rare (7,29,35). Patient treatment includes patient’s history and physical examination, laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging (39). Ultrasound is useful for detecting free fluid in the abdomen and parenchymal organ injuries (7). The diagnostic method of choice for detecting abdominal organ injury, in hemodynamically stable patient, is CT (12,30). The treatment modality in 95% of patients is conservative (non-operative) treatment (1,10). Surgical treatment is indicated in hemodynamically unstable patients or those with suspected hollow organ injury (9,10).
