Helicobacter pylori is the most common cause of chronic infections in humans. It is estimated that 50% of the world's population is infected with this bacteria. Once acquired, the infection persists and may or may not cause gastroduodenal disease. The pathway of the infection remains unknown. It is most likely that people get infected orally . It is believed that the man is the only reservoir. It causes several clinical manifestations, such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. the bacteria is diagnosed by invasive and noninvasive methods. The European Working Group for H. pylori infection has given a recommendation that the therapy should be threefold, consisting of two antibiotics and one anti-contraceptive drug. Newer studies show a decrease in the effectiveness of the recommended therapy. There is a rise in H. pylori resistance to clarithromycin. In addition to resistance, an important role plays a high frequency of side effects associated with the treatment, including diarrhea, nausea, epigastric pain. In addition to looking for new drug combinations, other therapeutic preparations, such as probiotics, are also being introduced. Probiotics are microorganisms with various beneficial properties for humans. The benefits of probiotics are not entirely clarified, however some are known: suppressing the growth of pathogenic bacteria and their binding and invasion of the epithelium, improving the intestinal barrier function, modulating the immune system by causing protective cytokines in people with inflammatory bowel disease. Some clinical and laboratory studies have shown improvement in eradication of H. pylori using probiotics.
