Alcoholism is one of the leading public health problems. It is a long-lasting and chronic illness that comes with over-enjoyment in alcohol. Alcohol has an adverse effect on human health, creating physical and psychological addiction. Alcohol addiction can affect close relatives and often disrupts the family, making it difficult for those who are treated and rehabilitated. By growing up in a society where alcohol is accepted and where it is consumed on all occasions, young people are increasingly experimenting. Although the Republic of Croatia has legally regulated the ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol by younger than 18, alcohol is again available everywhere and young people easily come to it. Unconscious of all the dangers of alcohol young people are beginning to create habits of regular consumption that can eventually develop into a serious addiction. Society responds to the problem of excessive alcohol consumption only when it can no longer be ignored, but often it is too late. Underaged drinking is often justified and tolerated as part of growing up, and therefore the danger of developing addiction is much bigger. The earlier in age alcohol addiction develops the worse course and prognosis is, it lasts longer and causes more and more problems. Most young people often stop drinking alcohol or at least reduces the amount of alkohol when the need for drinking and proving in society has passed, when they mature and start to look the state of being drunk from another point of view.
