Colour in dental medicine plays the big role in perception of dental esthetics and esthetic of the face. Colour is a phenomenon and its perception depends on number of factors like human factor, lightning int he dental office, colour of surroundings and other optical illusions. Choosing the right colour shade is usually performed by using standardized factory colour guides, which are based on different hues, values and chromas, and the colors are selected when a colour in scale is proximate as the colour of the tooth. This visual mean of tooth colour selection is very subjective and the chosen colour is hard to reproduce. That is why the objective instrument methods of colour selection were created. The electronic instruments that are designed for choosing colour shade in dentistry are colorimeters, spectrophotometers and digital cameras. The results of choosing colour with this methods are objective, quantifiable, repeatable and easily reproduced in dental laboratory
