Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the student population through the dimensions of depression, anxiety, and stress, assess their attachment styles, and then compare them between groups of medical and nonmedical students. Materials and methods: The research was conducted "online" on a sample of 1348 students (1084 women and 257 men) aged 18 to 42 years. The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Questionnaire (DASS) and the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ) were used and collected by the snowball method. Results: The study showed that the total score on the DASS questionnaire was significantly higher than the normative values, and that on the overall score on the DASS questionnaire and the scales of depression and anxiety, non-medical students had a significantly higher score than medical students (p<.05),, while on the stress scale there was no significant difference between medical and non-medical students. Furthermore, a statistically significant difference was obtained in the overall score on the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Questionnaire and all subscales of the questionnaire between respondents with a secure attachment style and those with insecure attachment styles (p<.01). People with a secure attachment style score significantly lower than people who have other attachment styles. Conclusion: The obtained results support the importance of promoting mental health and investing in prevention programs of all age groups, with an emphasis on young people who are otherwise in a sensitive period of life due to the characteristics of the developmental and transition period.
