Abstract
CO je otrovan plin bez boje, mirisa i okusa koji nastaje izgaranjem goriva kao što su ogrjevno drvo, benzin ili prirodni plin. Simptomi trovanja CO su nespecifični i promjenjivi i mogu se pogrešno dijagnosticirati kao virusna infekcija ili trovanje hranom. Rani simptomi uključuju glavobolju, vrtoglavicu ili slabost. Ostali simptomi su mogu biti izrazito teški kao npr. dispneja, zbunjenost, nerazumno ponašanje, gubitak svijesti, koma, teška acidoza i smrt. Odgođene neuropsihološke posljedice... More mogu se pojaviti nakon akutne, teške izloženosti CO, što rezultira oštećenjem izvršnog funkcioniranja, promjenama osobnosti i psihozom. Simptomi kroničnog trovanja pri višoj razini izloženosti mogu uključivati kronični umor, vrtoglavicu, neuropatiju, emocionalni stres, poremećaje pamćenja, poteškoće pri radu, bolove u trbuhu i proljev ili poremećaje spavanja. Teška intoksikacija CO može dovesti do cerebralnih patoloških promjena uključujući oštećenje hipokampusa, malog mozga, bijele tvari i sl. Liječenje se sastoji od primjene visokih koncentracija kisika putem maske sa spremnikomi liječenjem hiperbaričnom oksigenoterapijom. Less
Abstract (english)
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic, colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that is a product of burning fuels such as firewood, gasoline, or natural gas. Symptoms of CO poisoning are non-specific and variable and can be misdiagnosed as a viral infection or food poisoning. Early symptoms include headache, dizziness or weakness. Other symptoms are (dyspnea, confusion, irrational behavior , loss of consciousness, coma, severe acidosis, and death. Delayed neuropsychological sequelae can occur... More after an acute, severe CO exposure, resulting in impaired executive functioning, personality changes, and psychosis. Symptoms of chronic poisoning at a higher level of exposure can include chronic fatigue, vertigo, neuropathy, emotional distress, memory deficits, difficulty working, abdominal pain, and diarrhea or sleep disturbances. Severe CO intoxication can lead to cerebral pathological changes, including damage to hippocampus, cerebellum, and white matter.
