Imaging methods in urology have been evolving at a rapid pace in recent years. Different modalities enabled the in vivo presentation of previously unseen pathologies. Although ultrasound is not as accurate as other imaging methods, it still remains the most used form of diagnostics. Due to its wide application and the ability to present a massive number of pathologies in real time, ultrasound finds its place in everyday application. Ultrasound retains importance in invasive procedures where it represents a method that does not use radiation and does poses no risk to the patient. With the development of CT and MRI, conventional radiography is less and less used, its application is in the diagnosis of simple pathologies such as stenosis of the urogenital system, major anomalies or in case of sparing the patient from exposure to CT radiation. Scintigraphy remains a simple method for assessing renal function and perfusion, which is often used in transplanted kidneys. Although there is a possibility of anatomical presentation of the kidney by scintigraphy, this examination is usually performed with ultrasound. Another diagnostic possibility of scintigraphy is in determining obstruction. Scintigraphy has an advantage over other radiographic methods if the patient is allergic to contrasts or has claustrophobia and is unable to complete a CT or MRI examination. Angiographic examinations are mostly performed by CT and MR not only because of the quality but also because of the view from different angles, which enables a better examination and a more precise diagnosis of the pathology. MR is the first choice in the differential diagnosis of urogenital cancer and is sometimes used in staging. With further development and combination of imaging methods, more accurate and precise identification of pathologies is expected, as well as improved treatment.
