Abstract

Cryptorchidism is common anomaly in male children and due to severe consequences like infertility and increased risk of testicular cancer it is proved to be a major health issue. The purpose of this research was to examine incidence of cryptorchidism in the three-year period from 2012. – 2014. at the Clinic for Pediatric Surgery of Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka (CHC). Data bank of the Clinic for Pediatric Surgery of CHC Rijeka was restrospectivelly examined and analyzed. The diagnose of cryptorchidism was set postnatally, using clinical examination and the collected data were entered in Microsoft Office Excel charts and were proccesed using descriptive statistics methods. The treatment of retention of testis makes 5 % of all surgeries made on the Clinic for Pediatric Surgery of CDC Rijeka. Cryptorchidism is more often on the right side (54,10%). It appears in smaller number on the left side (42.30%) and bilateral (3.50%). In most cases cryptorchidism occurs on its own but in smaller number it occurs along with one or more genital anomalies. Genital anomalies which most commonly occurs with cryptrchidism a inguinal hernia (40% cases) but smaller number also comes hypoplasia of the testes, the foreskin adhesions, malformations of testes and epidydimis and phimosis. Considering that the spermatogensis is getting smaller the more time the testes is outside the scrotum comes the neccesity of an early surgical intervention. Orchidopexy is performed after the age of six months. Most of the boys are operated under the age od two (39%).
