Abstract
Bezmetalni nadomjesci na bazi cirkona pokazali su se dostojnom zamjenom za metal-keramiĉke restauracije zahvaljujući svojoj biokompatibilnosti i izvrsnim mehaniĉkim svojstvima. Faktori koji utjeĉu na mehaniĉka svojstva cirkonske keramike su; kemijska struktura veliĉina kristalnih zrnaca, veliĉina mikropukotina, porozitet, dodaci stabilizatora i pigmenata, tvorniĉka obrada i proces sinteriranja.Zbog opakne bijele boje cirkon se standardno prekriva obloţnom keramikom koja predstavlja estetsku, ali slabiju komponentu i time povećava rizik od loma fasete nadomjeska. Ovom problemu pristupilo se izradom konstrukcija u potpunosti iz cirkon dioksidnog materijala. Danas su na trţištu dostupni monolitni cirkonski materijali poboljšanih optiĉkih svojstava što je omogućilo njihovu primjenu u estetski zahtjevnom frontalnom podruĉju.Zahvaljujući visokoj ĉvrstoći, monolitni cirkonski nadomjesci idealni su u sluĉajevima ograniĉenog interokluzalnog prostora, omogućavajući minimalnu preparaciju i debljinu stijenke nadomjeska u straţnjoj i prednjoj regiji.Velika prednost monolitnih cirkonskih nadomjestaka jest kraće vrijeme izrade pomoću CAD/CAM tehnologije i prihvatljiva cijena u usporedbi sa metal keramiĉkim nadomjescima. Preparacija za monolitne cirkonske krunice sliĉna je kao kod metal keramiĉkih krunica i pri tom je moguće tangencijalno ili brušenje na stepenicu.Monolitni cirkonski nadomjesci se mogu cementirati adhezijskim, samoadhezijskim i konvencionalnim naĉinima cementiranja. Poliranje površina, posebno u okluzijskim podruĉjima je obavezno. Nepridrţavanje ovih smjernica moţe dovesti do oštećenja zuba antagonista.

Zirconia restorations have been used successfully for years in dentistry owing to their biocompatibility and good mechanical properties. Factors affecting the mechanical properties of zirconia ceramics are; microstructure, the size of microcracks, porosity, stabilizer additives and pigments, factory processing and sintering process.Because of their lack of translucency, zirconia cores are generally veneered with porcelain, which makes restorations weaker due to failure of the adhesion between the two materials. In recent years, all-ceramic zirconia restorations have been introduced in the dental sector with the intent to solve this problem. New monolithic zirconia material combines the known positive properties of zirconia with a significant increase in translucency (49% translucency), making it ideal for anterior and posterior applications.Due to its high strength, all-zirconia monolithic restorations are suited for cases with only limited inter-occlusal space, allowing minimal restoration wall-thickness in the posterior and anterior region. MZ crowns can be prepared just like conventional PFM crowns using either a butt shoulder, a chamfer, or a knife-edge finish line.Perhaps the greatest advantage of MZ crowns is the fact that they require less time to fabricate using CAD-CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) technology and are, therefore, less costly than conventional PFM restorations.Monolithic zirconia restorations can be seated using an adhesive, self adhesive or conventional cementation luting protocol. Polishing of the surface, particularly in the occlusal areas, is a must. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may lead to damage to the opposing teeth.
