Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Chronic pelvic pain is the most common disease and it can be defined as a continuous, intermittent pain, which affects the lower abdomen and pelvic area. It causes a functional limitation in daily activities and reduces quality of life. More often it is present in women. The prevalence in the world is in the range from 2.1 to 24%. Every year a lot of money are spent on diagnosis and treatment of this disease. In 2/3 patients with chronic pelvic pain the final diagnose is not often defined. This state leads to frustration in women, together with whole of her family. Signs and symptoms vary from patient to patient. Since the innervation of the pelvic is complex itself, so it is very difficult to set the correct diagnosis and adequate treatment. The etiology of chronic pelvic pain is multifactorial and pathophysiology is complex and insufficiently researched. The treatment begins by taking the empirical therapy. If the cause is accurately determined the we can use targeted therapy. If still symptoms persist and the quality of the life does not improve and the woman is unable to perform daily activities we can recommend her invasive technique called hysterectomy.
