Crohn's disease is a systemic, chronic granulomatous disease that can effect any part of the gastrointestinal tract. Diagnosis of Crohn's disease is usually made by a combination of clinical, biochemical, endoscopic, radiological and histologic findings. Conventional endoscopy can detect involvement up to duodenum and terminal ileum. Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) appeared in the beginnings of the 21st century as a new diagnostic method. The primary idea of this diagnostic tool was complete assessment of small bowel by ingesting a capsule which involved a camera and a source of light, which takes photos of the intestines that are later reviewed by a gastroenterologist. At the moment VCE is recommended as a first line of diagnostics in anemias caused by obscure gastrointestinal bleeding and obscure bleeding after classical endoscopic diagnostic was performed inconclusive. Regarding Crohn's disease, VCE is recommended after an inconclusive ileoclonoscopy, followed by positive clinical signs that are pointing to potential Crohn's disease. There are certain risks and contraidications in using VCE such as capsule retention with previously positive strictures, although in a small percentile of cases. Cost-effective analysis still can not confirm if VCE is the best diagnostic tool, but so far the research suggest positive predictions. With the development of the new capsule models and better scoring systems, the visualisation and the ability to diagnose lesions will improve, making the diagnostics more accurate
