Abstract
Danas se laseri i laserska tehnologija primjenjuju u brojnim medicinskim I granama dentalne medicine. Pojam LASER označava- Light Amplification of Stimulated Emission of Radiation- pojačavanje svijetla stimuliranom emisijom zračenja. Laser je mehanička naprava koja proizvodi I emitira zraku svijetla kroz prostor bez rasapa I gubitka energije. Fotoni su nosioci laserskog svijetla . Laserski medij se sastoji od atoma koji u orbitama imaju rasporedjene elektrone različite energije. Pri prijelazu elektrona iz više u nižu orbitu dolazi do oslobađanja energije u obliku fotona. Laserska zraka je monokromatska, koherentna I usmjerena zraka svjetlosne energije pretvorena u toplinsku koja ima terapijski učinak na tkiva. Lasere dijelimo obzirom na valnu duljinu , prema vrsti aktivnog medija, prema raspodjeli emitiranog zračenja u vremenu i obzirom na snagu. Karakteristike laserske zrake su mogućnost fokusiranja na male površine uz veliku preciznost sa malom količinom energije.Učinak lasera na tkivo ovisi o strukturi tkiva i udjelu vode u tkivu, cirkulaciji krvi i geometriji svjetlosne zrake(valna duljina, gustoća, udio energije). Postoje tri vrste interakcija između tkiva i lasera- fotokemijski, fototermički i fotoionizacijski učinak. Danas upotrebljavamo dvije vrste lasera, za meka i za tvrda tkiva. Laserska tehnologija svoju primjenu nalazi u raznim granama stomatologije i to npr. u ortodonciji, oralnoj medicine i kirurgiji, parodonotologiji, restorativnoj stomatologiji itd.

Nowadays we use laser technology in various branches of medicine and dental medicine. Term LASER stands for – Light Amplification of Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser is a mechanical device which produces and emits a beam of light through the space without dispersing and losing additional energy. Photons are carriers of the laser beam. Laser medium is composed out of atoms in which the electrons of various and specific energy outputs are distributed in different orbits. When the specific electron from the higher orbit travels to the lower one, it emits energy in a form of a photon. Laser beam is monochrome, coherent and focused energy of light transformed into thermal one, that has therapeutic effect on tissue. Lasers are differentiated by wave length, by different kinds of active media, by distribution of emitted radiation, and by magnitude of power. The characteristics of laser beam are the ability to focus on relatively small surfaces with great accuracy with a small amount of energy. Effect of the laser on the tissue depends on the structure, water composition, blood circulation, and the specifics of the light beam (wave length, density, amount of energy). There are three kinds of interactions between laser and tissue – photochemical, photothermal and photoionizing effect. Currently, there are two kinds of lasers in use ; for hard and soft tissue. Laser technology is applied widely in dental medicine as in orthodontics, oral medicine and chirurgy, parodontology, restorative dentistry.
