Abstract
Do nedavno su metal-keramički nadomjesci bili najbolje rješenje za velik broj indikacija u fiksnoj protetici, ali u novije vrijeme istiskuju ih sve bolji i estetski superiorniji bezmetalni keramički nadomjesci. Nadomjesci od pune keramike pružaju puno veće mogućnosti zahvaljujući većoj prozirnosti, boljem propuštanju svjetla, izvrsnoj biokompatibilnosti i maloj sklonosti stvaranja plaka. Nedovoljna dinamička izdržljivost nadomjestaka od pune keramike duže je vrijeme ograničavala njihovu kliničku primjenu na jako mali broj indikacija. Daljnje proširivanje indikacija za uporabu sustava od pune keramike bilo je moguće jedino primjenom keramika s izrazito višim indeksima dinamičke čvrstoće, kao što su npr. aluminij- ili cirkon-oksid. Razlozi porasta zanimanja za uporabu cirkon-oksida kao gradivnoga materijala u protetici jesu njegova dobra kemijska, mehanička i estetska svojstva te dimenzijska stabilnost. Novija klinička istraživanja pokazuju minimalnu pojavnost frakture u lateralnom području čime je cirkon-oksidna keramika pokazala bolju stabilnost kao skeletni material. Najčešći tehnički problem kod nadomjestaka od cirkon-oksida vezan je uz okrhnuće ili frakturu fasetne keramike. Današnji keramički fasetni materijali za cirkon-oksid još ne posjeduju potrebna mehanička svojstva, te se moraju dalje razvijati i ojačati.

Until recently, metal ceramic restorations have been the best solution for a large number of indications in fixed prosthodontics, but lately they have been pushed out by better and aesthetically superior non-metal ceramic restorations. Restorations made of full ceramic provide much greater possibilities thanks to greater transparency, better leakage of light, excellent biocompatibility and low tendency to form plaque. Insufficient fatigue strength of full-ceramic restorations has been restricted their clinical application in a very small number of indications for a long time. Further expanding of the indications for the use of full ceramics was only possible by using ceramics with extremely high dynamic strength, such as aluminum or zirconium oxide. Reasons for increased interest for using zirconium oxide as a building material in reconstruction are its good chemical, mechanical and aesthetic properties and dimensional stability. Recent clinical studies have shown a minimum incidence of fractures in the lateral area and that is how zirconium oxide ceramics have shown better stability for a skeletal material. The most common technical problem with the restoration of zirconium oxide is associated with the fracture of facet. Today's facet ceramic materials for zirconium oxide does not yet possess the necessary mechanical properties, and must be further developed and strengthened.
