Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Impaction and retention of impacted canines is remarkable problem. The incidence of impaction is between 1-3%. The most common causes of impaction are the genetic factor and the lack of space in the dental arch. In palatally impacted canines that occur in 85% of cases of canine impaction cause is genetic. In labially impacted canines, occurring in 15% of cases the cause of canine impaction is lack of space in the dental arch. For successful results in the treatment of impacted canines need a good diagnosis and therapy, and the cooperation between the surgeon-orthodontist-patient relationship. Treatment consists of surgical exposure, teething (spontaneous or with orthodontic train) and final orthodontic treatment by bringing the tooth in the arch and delivering solid occlusion. It is extremely important that all actions performed with minimal trauma to the surrounding tooth structure because it is the guarantee of a good performance status and periodontal therapy. Treatment of impacted maxillary canines should lie in the direction of prevention, interceptive and only at the end of the surgical-orthodontic treatment
