Initial periodontal therapy is a phase in which all soft and hard deposits are removed from the tooth surface and other retentive factors. The patient's motivation at this stage requires talking to the patient and teaching the patient various forms and methods of performing oral hygiene. At this stage, manual or mechanical instrumentations of the tooth root surface are used. Various studies have focused on tooth surface and surface microstructure after instrumentation. Sound and ultrasound instruments achieve similar results as hand instruments in terms of plaque and scale removal. The width of the instrument indicates that hand instruments provide poorer access to furcations than ultrasonic instruments. It is unclear whether machine or hand instruments produce a greater degree of root surface roughness. The lack of machine instrumentation is the production of contaminated aerosol. GBT is a systemic and risk-free treatment that can be adapted to all age groups and to each individual patient. It is modern and thus offers several modern devices and preparations allowing the patient to experience only minimal pain. It also reduces the time during which the patient stays in the practice.
