Abstract
SAŽETAK Sindrom pekućih usta (SPU) je kronično, idiopatsko, multifaktorijalno bolno stanje koje karakteriziraju pekućebolne senzacijama u području usne šupljine koje mogu varirati tijekom dana. Simptomi SPU-a mogu potrajati godinama. Bol je najčešće lokalizirana bilateralno u području lateralne i prednje dvije trećine jezika, tvrdog nepca i donje usne. Najčešće se pojavljuje u populaciji žena srednje i starije dobi. Iako je etiopatogeneza ove bolesti i dalje nepoznata, u dijagnostici se koristi metoda isključenja svih mogućih uzročnih čimbenika. Kao jedan od mogućih lokalnih čimbenika u nastanku SPU-a spominje se i galvanizam koji se u usnoj šupljini može javiti kada pacijent ima dvije ili više legure koje međusobno interferiraju, stoga je bitno dobro poznavati svojstva dentalnih materijala koja mogu pridonijeti nastanku galvanizma. Svrha rada bila je ispitati pojavnost električnog potencijala kod osoba sdijagnosticiranimprimarnim ili sekundarnim sindromom pekućih usta, koji imaju najmanje dvije kovine različite plemenitosti u usnoj šupljini. U istraživanju su sudjelovala34 pacijenata u SPU-ovoj skupini i 38 pacijenata u kontrolnoj skupini. Statističkom obradom podataka nije otkrivena značajna razlika u galvanskom potencijalu između ispitanih skupina (p=0.925). Iako je galvanizam u literaturi spomenut kao potencijalni lokani čimbenik u nastanku SPU-a, ovim istraživanjem nismo dokazali njihovu povezanost.

Burning mouth syndrome is a chronic, idiopathic, multifactorial painful condition which is characterized by a burning sensation in the mouth and can vary during the day. Once BMS symptoms occur, they can last for a few years. Pain is mostly localised bilaterally in the lateral and on anterior 2/3, hard palate, and lower lip. BMS is mostly present in middle age and old female population. Even though etiopatogenesis of the disease remains unknown,its diagnostic methods are based on exclusion of all possibe causal factors. Galvanism, known as one of the potential factors responsible for BMS can occur when the patient has two or more alloys that can interfere. Therefore it is essential to know all the characteristics of dental materials that may contribute to galvanism. The purpose of this study was to examine the occurence of electrical potential in patients with primary or secondary burning mouth syndrome having at least two metals of different nobility in their oral cavity. This study included 34 patients in BMS and 38 patients in the control group. Statistical analysis of the data revealed no significant difference in the galvanic potential between the examined gruops (p=0.925). Although galvanism is mentioned in literature to be potential local factor in BMS, in this study we did not prove their connection.
