Abstract
Acinetobacter baumannii nepokretni je Gram - negativni štapić koji izaziva teške infekcije kod imunokompromitiranih bolesnika. U posljednje vrijeme, ovaj oportunistički uzročnik značajno je povezan s rastom infekcija povezanih sa zdravstvenom skrbi, odnosno bolničkih infekcija. Njegova rezistentnost na većinu antibiotika danas predstavlja veliki problem. Cilj ovog rada bio je utvrditi antimikrobni učinak eteričnih ulja primorske Hrvatske na referentne sojeve A. baumannii (ATCC BAA-1605 i ATCC 19606) od kojih je A.baumannii ATCC BAA-1605, multiplorezistentni soj. Različitim je metodama testirano antimikrobno djelovanje pet različitih biljnih eteričnih ulja (smilje, proljeće i jesen - Helichrysum arenarium, ulje kadulje - Salvia officinalis, ulje borovice - Juniperus communis, ulje tuje - Thuja occidentalis i ulje lavandnina - Lavandula hybrida) na oba soja A. baumannii. Dokazano je kako je A. baumannii osjetljiv na sva testirana eterična ulja unutar 48 sati. Najbolji antimikrobni učinak pokazalo je eterično ulje lavandina, Lavandula hybrid, uz minimalnu inhibicijsku koncentraciju od 1,6 mg/mL te istu minimalnu baktericidnu koncentraciju. Metodom difuzije uz bušenje rupa u agaru također je zabilježen dobar učinak eteričnog ulja lavandina, ali samo na referentni soj A. baumannii ATCC 19606 s promjerom inhibicije od 27 mm, dok je eterično ulje borovice djelovalo na oba soja u promjeru od 18 do 19 mm. Zaključno, rezultati pokazuju da eterična ulje lavandina i borovice posjeduju dobru antimikrobnu aktivnost prema acinetobakteru i imaju veliki potencijal primjene kao sredstvo za suzbijanje nastanka ili širenja infekcija, najvećim djelom zastupljenih u bolničkom okruženju.

Acinetobacter baumannii is immobile Gram - negative rod which iduces severe infection in compromited pacient. Lately, this oprotunistic cause is significantly connected with increased number of hospital infections which represents global problem due to bacterial resistance to larger amount of antibiotics. Objective of this study was to determine antimicrobial activity of plant essential oils from Croatian coastal region on reference strains A. Baumannii (ATCC BAA-1605 andATCC 19606), of which A.baumannii ATCC BAA-1605 is multiply-resistant strain. The activity of five different essential oils (Helichrysum arenarium, Salvia officinalis, Juniperus communis, Thuja occidentalis and Lavandula hybrida) was tested by different methods on both strains of A. baumannii. It is shown that regadless to antibiotic resistancy, A. baumannii is sensitive to all tested plant essential oils within 48 hours. The best antimicrobial effect was shown by the essential oils of Lavandula hybrida with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 1.6 mg/mL and the same bactericidal concentration. The good performance of essential oil Lavandula hybrid was also recorded by agar well diffusion method, but only on A.baumannii ATCC 19606 with diameter of inhibition of 27 mm, while the essential oil of Juniperus communis had an effect on each strain in diameter from 18 to 19 mm. Ultimately, results suggest that essential oils Lavandula hybrid and Juniperus communis have a good antimicrobial activity against Acinetobacter and have large potential of application as a means of controlling the formation and spread of infection which are mainly represented in the hospital environment.
