Abstract

The assumption of this research is that stress at work influence nurses’ general health condition and health capacity. Aim: The aim of this research was to show, based on the issued certificates after examination of 30 nurses at the Health Center, how stress influences working capacity and occurrence of psychosomatic diseases. Subjects and Methods: This research comprised 30 subjects i.e. nurses occupied in Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, by means of random selection. Research method is data from medical records and lab results made by the specialist of occupational medicine after (s)he has examined all the subjects. The following data was taken from the lab tests: erythrocyte sedimentation rate (mm/36 ks), hemoglobin concentration expressed in g/L, erythrocyte number (x1012/L), leukocyte number (x109/L) and level of glucose in blood expressed in mmo/L. The following data has been collected from the medical records: subject's age, height, weight, years of service, pulse, blood pressure, sight and tidiness of ECG. Results: The analysis of the results shows that the biggest percentage of the tested nurses is obese and has high blood pressure. Moreover, there is a connection between the two diagnoses because 50% of the subjects who are obese also have hypertension. Conclusion: The results show a correlation of obesity and hypertension diagnosis and stress factors that being a nurse presupposes. The results can be defined good since all of the 30 subjects got the certificate that declares health capacity.
