Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Tooth autotransplantation is a procedure which has been more frequently and successfully performed and described in scientific literature for the last hundred years. Today, there are known criteria according to which candidates for autotransplantation are selected, which are related to general condition of the patient, the donor tooth and the location for the implant (5). The donor tooth can be ectopic, impacted, supernumerary in cases of hyperdontia, a tooth which is scheduled for extraction due to ortodontic reasons, while the location for the implant must have satisfactory bone support, adequate mass and gingival surface in order to ensure the best possible tooth stabilization and protection of periodontal space (3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12). A developing or fully developed tooth can be transplanted by method of immediate or delayed transplantation. Surgical procedures are known and well described, as well as the techniques of possible endodontic treatment, which must be carefully planned before the procedure itself to avoid complications which could endanger the success of the therapy. After the procedure, it is necessary to conduct regular check-ups to monitor the healing and recovery process and the patient's compliance to given instructions. Today, when the factors which affect a successful procedure and criteria for patient and techniques selection are known, medical journals more frequently publish papers which describe good long-term results of tooth autotransplantation. This can be a quick and successful method of healing a tooth defect, but unfortunately it is still not well known to clinicians, shrouded in controversy and unjustly considered experimental.
